How the choice is put to you
Regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 requires your consent before anything that is not strictly necessary is stored on your device, and the consent has to be freely given.
So the banner offers “Reject all” and “Accept all” as two buttons of the same size, in the same style, with the same visual weight, next to each other, with rejecting listed first. Neither is styled to look like the answer we would prefer.
Nothing optional is set before you choose. Closing the banner without choosing is not consent, and you are asked again on your next visit. Whatever you choose, the reading tools work exactly the same.
Strictly necessary
These are set without consent because the service cannot work without them. That is the exemption in regulation 6(4).

There are no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, no social media pixels and no cross-site profiling on this site, whatever you choose.
Changing your mind
You can change your choice whenever you like. Clearing it below brings the banner back on your next page view.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will stop you from staying signed in.
